Center of the Concept of International Fisheries and Ocean City
Blessed with rich fishery resources, Hakodate is a city where excellent academic research institutions in the field of fisheries and the ocean along with related industries gather. In order to enhance the regional advantage of this city, the Concept of International Fisheries and Ocean City was formulated in 2003. Our goal is to establish a core city of international academic fisheries and maritime research. We are aiming to create jobs and activate the industrial economy by producing world-leading research achievements and innovative technologies in the field of marine science based on industry-academia-government cooperation.
What is the Hakodate Research Center for Fisheries and Oceans?
This center is a rental research institute with laboratories where academic examining bodies and private enterprises can move in as residents. Research vessels can directly come alongside the adjacent pier, and the sea water collected from outside the port of Hakodate can be used for aquarium experiments. This Center is always available for your research and development of fisheries and the ocean and as the center of industry-academia-government cooperation. This center is also equipped with a large experimental aquarium, an observation lobby offering a panoramic view of the Port of Hakodate, a practice room where sea water can be used, and conference rooms intended for holding academic meetings. This center plays the role as the symbol of the Concept of International Fisheries and Ocean City.
